Cha Cha Cha

Best ball, then best 2, then all 3 — rotating every 3 holes.

How to play

  • Holes 1–3 (Cha): only the best score from the group counts each hole.
  • Holes 4–6 (Cha): the best two scores from the group are added together each hole.
  • Holes 7–9 (Cha): all three scores are added together each hole.
  • The pattern repeats for holes 10–18.
  • Add up the combined scores across all 18 holes. Lowest total wins — this is a stroke play format, not match play.

Example — holes 4–6 (best 2 count)

Hole 5 scores: Tom 4, Ali 5, Dana 6. Best two = 4 + 5 = 9. Dana's score doesn't count this hole, but she'll contribute on holes 7–9 when all three scores count.

Setup — before you tee off

  1. 1Enter exactly 3 player names.
  2. 2Decide on handicaps — if yes, apply net scores before selecting which count.
  3. 3Enter all three scores each hole. The app automatically selects which scores count based on the hole number and totals them up.

Pro tip

Cha Cha Cha is one of the best formats for threesomes — most side games are designed for four players, but this one was built for three.

Variations

Points version

Award 3 points for best ball holes, 2 for best-two holes, and 1 for all-three holes based on who contributed the counting score(s).

Chapman scramble hybrid

On all-three holes (holes 7–9), play a scramble — choose the best drive and everyone plays from there.
