Match play
Win holes, not strokes. One bad hole costs you one hole, not the match.

How to play
- •Each hole is won, lost, or halved. Win a hole by taking fewer strokes than your opponent.
- •The match is described by holes up or down — '2 up' means you've won 2 more holes than you've lost.
- •The match ends when one player is up by more holes than remain. '3 and 2' means the winner was 3 up with only 2 holes left to play.
- •If the match is tied after 18, it's a half — or you play sudden death holes to decide a winner.
- •With handicaps, the higher-handicap player receives strokes on specific holes based on the stroke index printed on the scorecard.
Example — match status after hole 14
Ali is 3 up with 4 holes to play. She only needs to win or halve one more hole to win the match. If Ben wins the next three, it goes to hole 18 all square.
Setup — before you tee off
- 1Enter both player names (or team names for 2v2).
- 2Enter handicap indexes if playing net match play. The app applies strokes to the correct holes automatically.
- 3Enter scores hole by hole. The app displays the running match status (e.g. 'Ali 2 up — 5 to play').
Pro tip
In match play you can concede a putt to your opponent — pick up their ball and say 'that's good.' It's part of the strategy. The app lets you record concessions without entering a full score.
Variations
Four-ball (2v2 best ball)
Two teams of two. Each player plays their own ball — the best score from each team competes on each hole.
Foursomes (alternate shot)
Two teams of two, but partners share one ball and alternate shots. Ryder Cup format.
