How to play
- •Before the round, set the three partnership rotations — each player pairs with a different partner for each set of 6 holes.
- •Holes 1–6: Team A vs. Team B. Play best ball match play — the team that wins more of the 6 holes wins that segment.
- •Holes 7–12: Partners switch. New Team A vs. new Team B. Same format.
- •Holes 13–18: Final rotation. Every player has now partnered with every other player once.
- •Each segment is worth a set number of points. Tally all three segments — highest total wins.
Example — partnership rotations
Tom & Ali vs. Dana & Chris (holes 1–6). Tom & Dana vs. Ali & Chris (holes 7–12). Tom & Chris vs. Ali & Dana (holes 13–18). Tom played with Ali, Dana, and Chris — one set each.
Setup — before you tee off
- 1Enter all 4 player names.
- 2The app automatically generates the three fair partnership rotations — or set them manually if you prefer.
- 3Set a point value per segment (e.g. 6 points per segment = 1 per hole, or a flat fee per segment win).
- 4Enter scores hole by hole. The app tracks each segment separately and shows the running team standings.
Pro tip
Sixes is great for foursomes where players have varying skill levels — rotating partnerships ensures no one team has a significant advantage for the whole round.
Variations
Points per hole
Award 1 point to the winning team for each individual hole instead of per segment. More granular scoring, more opportunities for comebacks.
Stroke play Sixes
Use combined team stroke totals instead of hole-by-hole match play. Lowest combined score per segment wins that segment.
